More in Portland

What's up folks...

So here we are, still in Portland as Kyle and I have chosen to stay at least through Tuesday night to see Wire at Dante's before heading out to Olympia to stay with Dinah's parents. Definitely pumped to get up there as it sounds like there are loads of instruments available for us to play around with. Maybe we'll get a little bit of creative work done...

Last night we hung out with a bunch of Rachel's (Kyle's cousin) friends. Some cool people to be meeting and we had put together a Chicken Chow Mein dish that was really great. Rachel made a mixture of chili sauce, peanut butter, soy sauce, and cilantro and it was really perfect. Definitely going to be making it myself sometime. Rocking some Cut Copy now with Kyle for the morning ("afternoon") after.

Yesterday we also did a bit of wandering around downtown Portland. The primary stops were Powell's bookstore (awesome as expected), the downtown Jackpot Records store (awesome as expected), and Public Domain Coffee (awesome as expected). The weather has clouded over again, but I'm glad we got to have the sun for our day at Fort Stevens two days ago. Here's a bit of the drive:

Portland is turning out to be as awesome as I'd expected -- if you couldn't tell... Lots of cool people who all seem to be very interested in music, arts, food, and just youth culture in general. It seems everyone has a friend in a band who is playing somewhere. Last night was really cool getting to rock out with new folks and really get some good socializing in. This was really the reason for a long stay in Portland so I'm glad it's been pulling together. We didn't get to dancing anywhere as we'd originally planned, but we did get some billiards and life-size Jenga taken care of down the street at Triple Nickel Pub.

We also got the field recorder out for a bit of fussing around. This is hardly worth listening to, but I think it's a bit of good entertainment for my own memory's sake. Sometimes people forget how fun it is to just make some noise and listen back to it immediately afterwards. It's really fun to do regardless of how "good" you or the take was and I think it's a great method of showing folks how simple and fun making music is...
