Portlanders

And we're back...

So, post-Arcata saw a good bit of driving along the coast on through the rest of Norcal and into Oregon. Kyle and I stopped numerous times to take in good sites and get good pictures. Now that we're at a kind of home base in Portland, we'll have some time to get some work done and have more media posts. Who knows, maybe Kyle will even write a post of his own ...

That night we camped at this gorgeous spot along the Oregon coast - Cape Blanco. Check this out:

Kyle before crossing into Oregon.

Me before crossing into Oregon. Apparently explaining something and prepped unnecessarily for torrential downpour.

Cape Blanco was clearly an awesome site, however, Oregon's wet weather became issue for us as we were attempting to put together our campfire. With nearly an hour and a half of attempts using a lighter, plenty of paper, and store-bought firewood, we still could not manage to get the damn thing going. I remembered seeing mist rising from the forest along our drive during the day -- it looked like the forest was steaming from the moisture .... this was hardly the spot to be making a fire. I'll admit: this lessened our spirits a bit, but having done a long drive during the day and gotten up early to get Sean to his bus that morning, the night wasn't going to be a late one anyway. We ate and passed out at a decent hour instead.

Yesterday, was the drive from Cape Blanco towards Eugene. More photos and videos were taken and it seemed to be grey and rainy for 90% of the drive. Beautiful Oregon lakes and forests were awesome to see from the passenger seat, as Kyle was now driving. Upon our arrival in Eugene we stopped by for a hefty meal at the Busy-Bee Cafe in Springfield. It was a great diner with a bunch of old posters and redneck jokes up on the walls.

After lunch we made it to Target so I could get a new pair of jeans. The night prior, I had gotten my only pair extremely wet and muddy trying to put the fire together. The only pair worth buying were the same as the two Kyle's got, so now he'll be putting his best efforts into not looking like me every day. During the stop we checked our couch requests but we still hadn't gotten any response from this guy from Eugene. We decided to book it to Portland after that.

Made it to Portland in good time and stopped for some quick coffee before picking up Kyle's cousin, Rachel, so we could head to her place. Gonna be here for a while now I think. We're excited as Portland is one of the bigger stops of the trip. Looking forward to meeting some cool people, seeing some good music, writing and making music, and just having generally awesome times.

Soundtrack: The National as usual, Patti Smith, The Clean, Stone Roses, Pavement's Wowee Zowee, and Nirvana in honor of the Northwest.
